NYC street artist SacSix launched a captivating film project that explores the concept of street art as an addiction. What started as a simple idea—if people can be addicted to shopping, sex, food, or gambling, could they also be addicted to street art?—quickly evolved into a larger, thought-provoking experiment. SacSix began wheatpasting flyers across the streets of NYC and Miami, posing the question to the public: “Are you addicted to street art?” Each flyer included a 24/7 helpline number for those who believed they were suffering from this "addiction."
What SacSix didn’t expect was the overwhelming response—hundreds of calls poured in, with people leaving messages sharing their experiences. Inspired by the volume and sincerity of the responses, SacSix transformed the project into a web series and short film. The series blurs the line between a real street art documentary and a comedic mockumentary, reminiscent of Spinal Tap. By combining humor with genuine street art culture, SacSix's project dives deep into the obsession, passion, and compulsion that can come with being a street artist, while also poking fun at the concept of "addiction" in a world where creativity is often seen as a form of rebellion.
